Nothing says ‘summer’ like a dress and this year, the fashions are surprisingly wearable.
There’s a nice article in today’s Guardian about summer-bright dresses.
Personally, I love a dress in summer and it’s been wonderful to have the weather to wear them lately. Yesterday, for lounging in the garden, I wore a caftan-style number in hemp that I bought many years ago from Anokhi, and on Friday, for a girl’s clothes swap, I wore a Boden pink silk teadress, lined in whisper-thin silk.
There is something about the air swirling around your body in a dress that really spells ‘summer’, and it’s a pleasure that men, in our culture, never know. Make the most of it while you can.
For once, the fashions are surprisingly wearable this year – proper wide straps you can get your bra under, proper waists and skirts full enough to walk in, and some with draping to hide your wobbly bits. Check them out.
My personal favourite is the pink one by Acne, but this yellow number is by Nicole Farhi, for a clean sailor look. Not since the mid-80s have dresses been quite so easy to wear – I have 80s, 60s and 50s dresses in these styles – so if you fancy a pop of bright colour, now might be the time to indulge.
