Defeet Duragloves e-touch

During the week, I experienced my first slightly cold ride. We’ve been blessed with superb weather so far this autumn, with temperatures in the high teens, but my cold hands at the end of that hour were a reminder that things are about to change. Since beginning cycling in August, I’ve been wearing a cheapo pair of Nakamura fingerless, padded gloves from… Read more »

Review: Sheila Moon winter knickers and Isis skort

Sheila Moon knickers red

Having ordered Sheila Moon’s winter tights and Artemis skort and found them fabulous but rather long, I decided to order the shorter knickers and Isis skort (basically the knickers with a skirt attached), figuring that at my height of 5’1″, the knickers would be more like a tight on me. These knickers and skort are made from the same brushed supplex… Read more »

Review: Sheila Moon fleece jackets and jerseys

Raglan jersey croquis

To confess all, I bought these Sheila Moon fleece jackets to match my new cycling bottoms. When I first got into cycling, I expected to do most of it in my ordinary outdoor gear – Crivit walking trousers from Lidl; Craghopper microfleeces, Eddy and Fiske merino wear from Finisterre and country jackets from Lands’ End and Rohan. And I still, at present, have… Read more »

Review: Karrimor high-vis running fleece

This pink half-zip fleece from Karrimor has no pretensions to be cycling gear, but is actually designed for runners. However, of all the Karrimor products I ordered in the firm’s end-of-line cheap as chips sale, this is my favourite. It’s a pretty colour, really quite high-vis, with a softshell-type smooth outer surface and a lovely soft inside surface, thumbholes, reflective details, zipped… Read more »

Visibility revisited

Trish discussed hi-vis clothing a little while ago. Frankly, I think this is a no-brainer: it’s better to be seen than to be stylish (an argument I have used for my clothing choices for years). But it’s not just about wearing something bright. Above you see me dressed in highlighter yellow with a screamingly green helmet. And yet, while it’s… Read more »

Review: Sheila Moon winter cycling tights and skort

It was a case of mixed fortunes when I first hit upon Sheila Moon cycling apparel. Finding her was the good bit – not so good was the fact that she had decided to close her company literally the week before, after 18 years in business. The thing that attracted me to the Sheila Moon designs was the yoga-style crossover… Read more »

Visibility

      No Comments on Visibility

While we continue with the seemingly endless wait for our new bikes, I notice that as a driver, I’m becoming much more aware of cyclists and their visibility. Often, it leaves a lot to be desired. It’s been cycling season here in France – the time when seemingly every local man, young or old, hauls himself into lycra and a… Read more »
